hotpoint wd440 DRY light flashing?

i own a hotpoint wd440 1400 aquarius. when i switch it on all lights flash as normal but then the DRY light from the DOOR LOCKED/WAS/RINSE AND SPIN/FINAL SPIN/DRY line of lights continues to flash and the washing machine will not start. any ideas,thanks
