How can I get my boiler pilot light to stay on?

I have a Potterton combi boiler whose pilot light went out. When I try to reignite it, it does indeed light however it goes out after about 15 seconds after making some spluttering noises. It's getting pretty chilly here in Edinburgh and I'd really love to stick the heating on so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

There is a grey strip on the boiler that is about 4 inches long - at one end is a hole that is slightly smaller than a ten pence piece. It's through there that I can see the pilot light. When the pilot light is lit, a strip of flame is sparked. Then it goes out again after 15-20 seconds, with a sputter.

I'm not sure when the boiler was last serviced as I only rent and it will have been done before I moved in in May.

how big is your pilot light? the problem could be the thermo couple is not getting enough heat or the thermo couple needs replacing. When was your boiler last serviced? The pilot jet may need cleaning.
