After the water supply was cut for two days following bathroom repairs, the washing machine refuses to empty and refill, and so long washing cycles or rinsing causes the machine dial light to jump to pre-wash and remain flashing.

After 2 days, we left the machine door open to dry it out etc, and woke this morning to find the machine full of water and water all over the floor. Could an air lock in the water pipe have caused this? Why would this cause the other problem?
