Zanussi Nexus FL 1084 - drum won't turn?

How can I fix my Zanussi Nexus FL 1084 - the drum won't turn. It just hums and tries to go through the process. Before it stopped altogether it used to make a loud fast whizzing sound before the spin cycle, ending in a noise like a tumble dry!?!?

motor brushes worn out?.lay machine on its back and you will see the motor with the brushes attached to the side.if you remove them and if there is 10mm or less carbon then they will need replacing
