THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!!?

I have just cancelled Sky upstairs and I am forced to record downstairs. Problem is, I do not know how to connect up my video recorder! It is a "Top Of The Range" model package (TV and VCR) which I bought about 16 years ago. We have tried to connect this up for a long time, but cannot figure how to do it. I have tried INPUT SELECTS, which came up with L1, L2 and Channels 1-5. I have noticed that there is a three pins on the video recorder, which I clearly understand about. I have also noticed that there is a INPUT BALANCE on the TV and three more connections, if that is any help. L2, as i have just found out, means the front three pins. So what I did was I got a AV cable (as I have just mentioned about) and connected the front pins on both TV and VCR then turned onto it input. No luck. Can anyone help me out?

Look I all know is that mum said it was connected with a scart lead at the back! Also, I have tried what you said Tony. There isnt an reconised input!

Sorry my answer was gobbledy gook to you but I was trying to cover lots of bases and obviously failed. It's difficult to go further because you haven't answered my question (or JB's).

Are you trying to record from your Sky Digibox? Or from the internal tuner of your VCR? Until you have answered those questions it is difficult to hlep you.

The front 'pins' (sockets) are nornmally only used to input from a vidoe camcorder and should not be needed for anything else.

BTW. An AV cable could mean anything as they come in all shapes, sizes, and configurations.

Sorry, I did not understand what Terry had just said. Could somebody simplfy? I am just doing what the video recorder says, L2 is the front three pins!!!

Sorry JB but nothing you have said is correct.

Chad are you trying to record from a Sky box? If so you will find two SCART sockets on the back of the box. Connect SCART one with a SCART cable to your TV and SCART 2 to your VCR. Turn on your TV vVCR and Sky box. Use input selct until you see a Sky programme and that input will be the one for Sky.

If you just want to record 'off air' Take an aerial cable from the wall into your the socket on you VCR marked 'aerial' or 'antenna' and then another aerial cable from the other socket on the VCR to the TV. They are now daisy chained' (you don't need a splitter). Now you need to tune your VCR so go to menu and follow your nose.

L1 and L2 are your SCART sockets. If you don't understand SCART try a search on Wikipedia.

BTW. L2 on a Sky box is a second modulated output that can drive a second TV and can have a chanel device fitted to it. (If you doin't understand the last bit or don't care don't worry it's irrelevent and is only here for completness.)

Please repost if you need more or to add clarification to your question.

I take it that you are trying to record from your sky receiver? one of the easiest ways is to get a splitter and feed the output to both the tv and video airiel inputs, remember that the second output from the sky box carries a voltage so don't try connecting with that one it is for thr remote sender.
