can a window motor KEM 140 B (AF 11 B) be repaired?

can a velex window motor KEM 140 B(AF 11 B) be repaired? The window operator is a KES 210(AF 10 B) and the window is a VS 1060074B 42 AF 12 A.

I had a similar problem on my motor. The motor kept running however you could hear it slipping.
It had stripped where the motor mates up to the window mechanism. Unable to find a new one I used epoxy and added a few drops where the window stubs into the motor. I left it for a few days and it has been working now for 4 years. Just got lucky I guess. I would still like to get a new spare KEM140 motor just in case but cannot find one.

The problem you describe, skylight fully closed (or open) and the motor keeps running is the same one I had. The problem was not the motor, but the scissor mechanism. I called Velux and bought a replacement direct from them. velux was very helpful on the phone.

This is a question for Brian. Were you able to find a replacement scissor lift?

Barbara, January 2016
This is for John and GreggerT, even though your posts were over a year ago. I had this same problem: "The motors work fine but at each end they fail to stop and click as if a gear in the mechanism is stripped. " You are right, there is a stripped gear, but it's in the scissor lift operator, not in the motor assembly. I took everything completely apart this morning to learn this. There are two large gears in the scissor lift, and a few of the teeth were completely worn away. I haven't found a replacement source yet, but hopefully someone is selling replacement assemblies.

I'm not sure whether mine is a KEM 140 but the mechanism is a scissors type. The motors work fine but at each end they fail to stop and click as if a gear in the mechanism is stripped. It is possible to replace the gear mechanism or is that an entire motor replacement? I haven't removed the motors yet since they're roof windows and difficult to access.

Old thread I know......but does anyone understand how the KEM 140 limets out and shuts off at full-close? One of mine opens fine, shuts off.....but on the close direction she keeps trying to close more, does not shut off unless I stop it on the KES 310 Control. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

No the Velux Kem-140 motors can not be repaired. But I just purchased two brand new Discontinued Velux Kem-140 Skylight motors on that www.skylight-parts.com website Thanks to your help. I received a full warranty as well. They Do also sell brand new Discontinued Electric Venetian Blinds and Electric Shades that Velux does not sell for their older model Skylights.

how to contact NIck

Hello Brian L.
The first site you provided:www.shop.veluxparts.com is no longer exist!
The seconed one - www.skylight-parts.com. is charging $749.95 plus shipping!!!! I find it weird that all they sell is this motor! Do you own stock in this company? it is above outrage...

I purchased a KEM 140 Assembly before Velux stopped selling them. I had to change my Control Pad along with the motor assy and when I hooked it up it didn't run out of the box. The Velux Tech Service guy told me to clip the diode too and than worked perfectly. The problem that I have is that the Gear assemblies are self destructing. I have 3 or 4 good motors and would exchange 2 of those for gear assembles with bad motors. Recently had to buy a complete new skylight to fix one of them and that's expensive. But the new ones are better designed.

No the Velux Kem-140 motors can Not be repaired and Velux does Not sell the motors as well. But I found a website where you can purchase brand new still in the box discontinued Velux Kem-140 skylight motors at www.skylight-parts.com. I purchased two new Kem-140 motors on line and I received a full one year warranty on each motor. They also have Velux discontinued Electric venetian blinds and shades that Velux does not produce nor sell anymore. What an Awesome website

Brian L., February 2013
Hey Terri G were you able to use the velux controls with the new motors?

No, I drove myself nuts trying to repair or replace my KEM140s... I just purchased 2 of these ET-SCA4 - 24vdc 400mm (15.75") travel heavy duty chain driven window/roof vent actuator, 700 newtons (157 lbs) from North Star Technologies.
They worked GREAT! Very easy to install and only $254 per motor.

Nick
Do u rebuild others or just yours?
Will u rebuild mine?

Ahuva Veig, June 2012
Nick. Are you still in the KEM 140 rebuilding bUsiness? Mine appears to have burned out as well. Thanks in advance.

John, May 2012
Nick - can you rebuild ours as well?

Sabine, May 2012
Yes i do rebuild them when they burn...Theses servos are not available any more. Velux will tell you to replace the whole skylite that has a differant servo drive than the KEM 140.

Nick, November 2011
Great advice, Worked like a charm

Depends on what the problem is. I had a motor that opened OK, but really struggled on closing. I talked to Velux tech services. They suggested snipping out the diode. Instead I snipped out one parallel resistor. That provided more power for closing without affecting the opening. Works fine. You can't remove all three resistors because the motor will draw too much current and burn out.
