How can I stop my toilet cistern from overflowing - there's no ballcock?

My dual flush push button toilet cistern fills up ok after flushing. Once it's full, if I turn on the hot tap in the sink, the cistern starts to fill up again then overflows into the toilet bowl. Sometimes the cistern fills up and overflows for no apparent reason. Very annoying.

Yes I have a combi boiler but no, hot water isn't going into either the cistern or the toilet - it's cold water.

are you on a combi boiler system by any chance ?
