error code e4 on remeha avanta plus?

looked at boiler was flashing E 4 tried restarting it but still the same any ideas what could be causing this
lee f, December 2010
e 4 is ignition failure , aminly caused by lack of gas, check you have gas at other applainces first then watch boiler on reset and look at the sight glass when it goes through ignition sequence, as a common fault is the burner rope seal has failed , but it could be a few other issues , has the condense pipe froze up recently !!!

same thing happen to me just defrosted the out side pipe and then the boiler kicked back in again. now have the water dripping in to a bucket in side, bit unsightly yes but at least i know it wont freeze again, next year going to have the pipe moved so it stays in house and going in with washing machine.

We had the same problem with this boiler (and also a similar one with condensing pipe). It appears that there was no ignition because of the water that had backed-up the condensing pipe. We waited several days before the parts dried out and then when 'R' was pressed the boiler tried three or four times before ignition was accomplished and everything now appears fine. It was almost a week before the relevant parts dried out sufficiently for ignition to take place.

we have same problem, keep trying to restart but it wont. The condensate pipe outside was frozen but have cleared that and it had backed up into boiler, so hoping there is no damage done :( someone please help
