my freeview box is only showing the current program playing. how can i get the full guide so that i can record future programmes?

You do not say what box you have which is unhelpful for a good answer. Some boxes relied for their EPG on a company that has since gone out of business. If yours is one of these, then I am afraid that you have had it.
