My WM62X washing machine has been going for 10 years now, but I've replaced several items, door switch, pump, drum pressure switch and repaired wiring here and there. In the last couple of years the brushes have been wearing out every 6 months, but we do LOTS of washing. The brushes (White) were replaced by (black) ones last time, the shop said they will be fine. They worked for 8 months. Then the consumer unit started popping fuses everytime the motor kicked in. I reseated the brushes after cleaning the commutator and worked for about 20 mins. I've decided to buy a new motor now from hotpoint but a shop informs me there's nothing wrong with my motor. It's running fine on a bench. Surely not under any load it will work fine? He said he has bedded the brushes in now? I just don't trust this motor and it really makes a screaming noise when spinning. I presume it was the motor causing my fuses to pop? if I disconnected the motor and turned the machine on, the pump etc worked fine. It was only when the motor was connected that it caused fuses to blow. The motor also gets VERY hot indeed. You could easily fry an egg on it. Any advice PLEEEEEEASE

Ordered new motor from Hotpoint direct with conversion kit for the wiring. The conversion kit is useless, instructions say 7-7 6-6 etc and wire 1 not used. WRONG. It's actually 1-7 2-6 etc. If I wired it up as per instructions it would have probably blown. The conversion kit is full of silly crimps for the wire, hate those. Used a terminal block with screws instead and wow it's all working superb.

How do you 'bed' in new carbon brushes? I never knew this could be done or indeed HAD to be done?

get it meggered by a spark,if you know what that means, its not rocket science,if the motor noisy replace the armature,if the resistence is down to earth, replace the armature, clean all carbon dust from the brush ring,
get some one who knows what the hell they are doing !
