Sony VAIO microphone input?

Hi guys, I have a sony vaio VGC-JS4EF desktop pc, you know the all in one? my prob is why wont it pick up the external mic when I plug it in? it just picks up the internal one, Im using the fruity loops 9 program for recording and I have a good knowledge of music can anyone help?

You need to buy a microphone specifically designed to work on a PC. Just any old mike won't do.
