old ceiling rose wiring?

got 2 black wires 2 red wires 2 earths joined, new connections on new 4 bar spotlight understand colours old for new has 4 bar connector can,t find reason why can.t switch lights off is one of the black wires switch live and the other neutral and the two red wires in to the 4 th slot off the connector

if there are only two reds and two blacks dont fanny on with testers its the end of the line. doesnt matter which way round the blacks go as long as the reds are connected and earths are connected

Alternatively - join the two Red wires together and to Nothing Else.

Connect the two remaining Black wires to the new light fitting - one will be switched live - from the switch - to turn the lights on and off. The other will be neural to complete the circuit.

If you have no terminal connection for the two red wires you may have to use a piece of terminal block strip.

Do no neglect the earth wires - join them all together.

right,turn the power off,remove all wires cept the earths from the rose,now get a test meter put it in the ohms scale,get some one to turn the switch on and off as you check the pairs of wires,the one pair that gives a clear reading as the switch is turned on and off,this is the switch wire,one end of this goes to the brown wire on your new light,the other end goes to the loop in red,
