how can i get past the BAD_POOL_CALLER error?

i had windows XP on my dell desktop, but was going to reinstall it. i put in the OS cd and started it. half way through it came up with the message about BAD_POOL_CALLER. i restarted several time, trying safe mode(which it won let me do in the middle of setup) and unplugging everything but my monitor and keyboard. i have no usb devices but my printer which was unhooked. i dont know what else to do!

You don't say why you wanted to reinstall XP which may have helped here. Unfortunately that 'stop code' could be many things. Your best bet is to go to www.microsoft.com and do a search. Don't forget to include XP in your search arguments because that error can happen with W2K as well.
