the drum on my hotpoint first edition 1000 wont spin?

i have a hotpoint first edition 1000, and it fills up with water ok and takes the powder but the drum will not spin...then if i move the dial round it will drain the water out again ...please can anyone help?

remove then check that the motor brushes are not worn down to there limit,the brushes on these don't last long anyway
