How can I fix my Panasonic VHS / DVD Recorder - Model DMR-ES30VEB?

It appears that interference from lightning (but not a direct strike) has corrupted the timing code within this machine. I am not able to turn it on from the machine nor by the remote, but it switches itself on periodically once or twice an hour, but only for 4/5 minutes before it dies of its own accord. Have switched off the power for a minute and then switched back on and the machine does a self check and sets itself up, but then dies again after 4/5 minutes. Even if I play a DVD or a VHS tape whilst it functions, the machine will die after 4/5 minutes. Any ideas how this can be remedied and the machine satisfactorily re-programmed?
