How can I fix my Panasonic DVd recorder Model DMR_ES30VEB?

As I would be away for a week I turned off the electrical supply to my DVD recorder. On my return I turned on the electrics and immediatley the clock on it displayed a zero time. I switched on the machine and proceeded to update via the set up programme the actual time and date etc. But before I could put the information in the DVD recorder switch off completely including the clock. If I turn the power off and then on again it will respond and I am able to switch it on but it fails after about a minute? I can only switch it on if the power is put off then on again before the the on switch will react and again it fails after approximatley one minute or so. I have changed the power supply plug but makes no difference. Any Ideas?
