how can i fix my thorn M44/54 gas boiler?

hi, my boiler a thorn M44/54 goes through thermastats like sweeties.the pilot is constantly plopping out then takes ages to relight. so keep needing to get new thermastat 1 or 2 a year. my boiler is 29 years old.thanks. blueberry.

it is thermocouples your boiler is using mate. probably because the pilot flame is set too high and burning thru them this is easily adjusted but should be done by a gas safe engineer. you might want to think about replacing that boiler soon though and the government are giving £400 towards it too hope this helps
