Hotpoint WD440?

Hi, i have a hotpoint wd440 washer dryer, a few weeks ago when using the tumble dryer it was tripping an rcd, then i was getting the flashing lights and read it was the heater ntc and now it just does not heat up. I have metered out the ntc and got a reading of 23k ohms, the heating element is out of range (meter only goes to 2000k ohms). So would it be the heater element that has gone as surely this should be 0 ohms and what could have possible caused the element to go again after only 18 months.

Hi, thanks for the replies. When i metered the element i had disconnected the wires but not removed it.
Where is the thermo fuse, is it the component under the element with 2 prongs on it that a black plastic connector glips onto? If it is that was giving me the 23k ohms reading. the heating coil has gone, there is no continuity through it but am still concerned as to what has cause it to fail again.

check the thermofuse.I know the 440p models have one fitted.there are two kinds, one with spade conectors and one with a push fit plastic connector.

hi chris, when you metered the 1200 watt coil element did you remove both wires before you tested it? a reading like that would suggest a down to eath fault or short on the element.remove the element by undoing the two nuts and test again.check the coil for moisture that can give you a silly reading.you can check the coil for continuety,.or you could switch dryer on and meter the element conections for 240v/ac.sounds like the original tripping fault could of been moisture on the element.the fault now could lie with the T/stat or element.
