Dimmer Switch Flashed when turned off?

My dimmer switch has flashed when turned off and now does not work, is this as simple as the switch has blown and needs replacing

have fuses/mcb's/trips been checked for this circuit?.If so and they are good undo dimmer and check wiring to dimmer switch for loose connections.if thats ok suspect dimmer switch
