How did you reinstall? Using an original XP installation CD or a custom made CD?
If a custom made CD, it's possible that it installs a pre-configured and identified version.

If you need a password, ask the person who gave you the computer to also give you the password.

If you can log in, from the controll pannel, open "Users accounts".
Create a new administrator account and another for yourself.
REBOOT and log in using your new administrator account.
Open Users accounts again and delete the old account that you don't want.

Next, open System from the controll pannel.
Sellect the Computer's name tab.
Enter what you want in Computer's description.
Click the "Modify..." button.
Enter a new name for the computer. It MUST be different than the name of ANY account.
Under "Workgroup", enter the name of your home network if any.
Click OK to close the windows.
Check the auto update tab to make sure they are enabled. Use one of the two first options.
Click OK.

DONE
