I had a gas fire removed recently and a few hours later our gas boiler stopped working. Odd coincidence.

The boiler just will not switch on. It is not a fuse issue. Might it be to do with something else, gas pressure or similar?

from your description "a few hours later boiler stopped working"
sounds like boiler was working for a couple of hours at least after work carried out
that rules out air in gas pipework
is the boiler flashing any fault codes/lights?
cant help without more info
call back the gas fitter who did the work

Yes, the cooker works fine. The pipe was capped by someone who is gas certified. Just seemed odd for the boiler to pack up within hours of the gas being switched off and on.

Was the gas turned off, Was it turned back on? Is the pipe from the fire capped, so as not to leak.
