boiler will only fire up when hot water tap is opened, but then flame dies after about 2 seconds. when central heating is selected and constant is selected on the timer, boiler does nothing?

as I have the same boiler it could 1 of 2 things, firstly the overheat stat situated under the cover left of centre resting on a pipe with 2 wires coming from it, could be faulty or in the case of ours the circuit board is faulty, I know from experience that the board is an off the shelf item from spares outlets at £110.00
