Thomson 250 Hard Drive Freeview box?

My Freeview box suddently stopped working and then it made a 'pop' sound and there was a smell of burning.
I have not turned it on since.

Is it worth repairing as I have lots of recorded programmes which I would like to save?

Sounds like a psu failure. A capacitor went bang, split open, expelling silver foil everywhere!! If you were lucky it just expelled its gooey electrolyte everywhere. It will need to be taken apart (Remove the mains plug from the wall socket 1st.) and the psu board removed. You will see which capacitor went pop. Look on Ebay for a replacement, its the cheapest option. Doing it this way saves your recordings.
