indesit dishwasher, cycle sticks part way round and does'nt heat the water?

no model number indicated other than it is made by indesit and
is 3000w rated. On short or long cycle it sticks part way, but you can manually click it forward a notch where it completes the cycle, but it does'nt heat the water resulting in dirty dishes afterwards. Can the element need changing.

I used to work for AEG Domestic Appliances for 11 years and yes it does sound like either the heating element is blown or an inline overheat thermostat has popped out and needs resetting/replacing. Probably the first of the two though.
