What you want to do is similar to performing open heart surgery in your kitchen.
It may not be possible to do even with good electronic skills in a fully furnished electronic shop.

Finaly, you have few choices:
1 - Copping with the slower USB 1.1 ports.
2 - Getting a new, immencely supperior, laptop.

Easiest thing to do is buy a new laptop. You could fit a new motherboard, but it's not worth the trouble. A new laptop will run a lot faster, have more memory, a larger hard drive, and, you will be able to use a dongle and a memory stick, simples!
