How to fix my washer dryer hotpoint wd440g?

My washer dryer all of sudden stopped heating completely. I washed with 60 degrees in wash cycle and checked the damp cloth which is wet with cold water rather than hot water. So, no hot water there. Then i ran the machine just in dry mode to check the dryer. Again, the cloth is damp as it is and there is no heat at all. Any suggestions where to look at the problem as heating in both washer and dryer stopped working all of a sudden.

All i remember was a burning smell emanating from the machine last weekend after which the problem started. No more burning smell now. Dono where to start. Any help appreciated.
