I may be way out of date here but to fix colour problem Try this..Menu: Sys Set/Backlight mode any number other than 7. 7 will make the colours change.
The latest version of firmware is 9.1.52.000.
I have 3 M18's only one is at this version. Does anyone know how or where it is possible to download firmware??????

On the 512mb-
I had that problem for a while but i just fiddled with it for a bit -
Menu - "sys.thingy" - backlight options (there are two different backlight settings, chose the second) - edit to different numbers.
Mine now stays a tastefull green (::
All i need to do now is find some firmware since the main site seems to be down...

I've got a 1 g and a 512.
The 1 g is fine but the 512 has no backlight mode setting for changing the screen colour. Both players have differant F/W versions so I'm convinced it is a firmware problem.
I'm currently looking for a firmware upgrade for the 512.
I'll keep you posted...

The supplier replaced the M18, but came back again with the same problem. There is definitely a problem with the S/W. Rob, I don't even have a 'backlight mode' in my M18 S/W version '2004/11/29 4284_v2.1'. No-one seems to having problems with the 256 or 128 models, just the 512s. There is also nowhere to download the updates. You'd think Sumvision would test the functions before it goes out to the general public. Anyway, I'm replacing this for a completely different make with the same spec.

I've got the 258 M18, and have sorted the colour issue I think.

Try this..Menu: Sys Set/backlight ( set to 30 ), Backlight mode any number other than 7. 7 seems to have it going through all the colours. I have mine on 2.

you can't change the backlight and you download firmware with the disk you came with. does anybody know how to get sumvision m18 off hold 'cause mine always says hold even when you try to take it off.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I think I've got a firmware problem too. I've just bought an M18 512MB and the backlight keeps going to random colours, there's no way to keep it constant for each button press. The instructions state there's a utility to change to backlight colour and it's timing and only the timing is available. Is anybody elses doing this? The Sumvision website is next to useless and there's no information in the M18s supplied instructions as to where you actually download a firmware update from. Frustrating! I've sent a tech question to the supplier so I'll keep this site updated if there's a decent reply.
