How do IS secure old hanging lamps to wall/ceiling?

Hi, I LOVE the old lamps from 70-80's, the kind with cord and chain with switch on cord. I've collected 2, but I'm afraid to hang them because I'm afraid they'll fall. How can I hang them securely?

You will do best to pay a tradesman to do the work for you. Your question suggests a certain lack of confidence.

Much will depend on the soundness of the wall/ceiling the weight of the lamps and the force needed to operate the switch cord.

It's a judgement thing in which prior experience helps to determine the best approach.
