Why does my washing machine trip the mains rcd ?

I have a hoover 1300 special edition washing machine and today it tripped the mains rcd as soon as the water was supposed to start filling.. It has continued to trip since then. I have loads of washing to do :o( Please help.

inlet valve will not cause tripping. This is most likely a straight forward heating element or motor issue.to prove this disconnect the wires to the inlet valve and insulate them then retry.if it trip it isn't the inlet valve.you now need to do the same disconnect and insulate on the heater and then on the motor.process of elimination without a test meter.my money is on heater ;-)

ps,dont forget to turn the water off ha ha u need to find out what valve is faulty,if you put on the whites prog, then its the hot valve, the valve can bulge up if it overheats, replace this one

they dont need to be hoover valves, hoover buy em inall washmachine comps use em

then it could b as pecavvi said the valve, remove the plug from the mains, talke the top off,i worked for hoover for 20 years, some of their machines had two screws at the rear you take them off and push the worktop back to remove, the water valves are common as muck they are held in plsace by 2 screws, you can buy them in any hoover dealler cheap as chips

Thank you Peccavi.
Any idea how I get the top off the machine please. I live in rural Ireland and will need to order a part off the internet, so would like to take a photo of the solenoid in situ to make sure I order the right part.

MM - The machine trips instantly when it starts to fill.

does it fill then trip the rccd?or does it trip when its starts filling ?a water valve will not norm trip a rccd,it goes o/c could be a l oose wire from water valve,or more likely a earth fault in heater or motor do not use it till it gets tested yiou need to get it meggered to find the fault

The RCD is a safety device - it detects a difference in current between live and neutral and assumes that any Missing (leakage) current is going through a person and doing them harm.

Obviously in your machine some current is running to earth instead of running through the neutral wire.

Based on what you say it is very probable that the inlet solenoid is defective - a quick and easy repair job - YouTube has videos - bread and butter for a service engineer.
