why does the drum slowly fills with water when not in use?

I have a kenmore front load washing machine Model Num 970-C45092-00. I've noticed that the drum is slowly filling with water...an inch overnight! I have to set the machine to drain/spin to get rid of the water. Is there an easy fix for this issue?

the water solenoid valve is sticking open probably because of dirt in the water, normally the valve needs replacing
