minivator stairlift half speed on upward travel?

my minivator simplicity 950 stairlift travels at half speed on the upward journey, but travels at normal speed on the downward journey. Any suggestions at what is the reason for this

I would think that it is a battery problem ? More power is required going up than down hence if the batteries are failing they give out less power ?
