Why does the FMTC 144HD4F Charger light not come on?

FMTC 144HD4F Performance drill has been in its case for years unused. Dug it out to charge it as I finally had a use for this gift. Charger light doesnt come on. Checked the troubleshooting and followed the sequence of checks. Checked the output from the plug socket all okay, Checked the output from the charger pod and it read 26.1 I thought this should be 14.4 The light doesnt come on in any circumstances. The batteries are showing 0.01
