how can i fix mystairlift, minivator?

My stairlift stopped suddenly while I was on it last night. I had to "sleep" in a chair in the kitchen. This morning My Mum manually brought it down to the charging port with the winding key....what do we do now? Would grately appreciate your help.

It doe good going up but jerks going down The motor only runs for a second then it drifts about three feet and does it again.
