why does my Widescreen has horizontal lines?

I have a 42 inch hatachi and it has the best picture then all of a sudden the whole screen is full of fine horizontal lines from top to bottom and blurs the picture....if i turn it off and back on it will help sometimes for days sometimes for minutes....i have even smacked the side once or twice and it will straighten up......any opinion would help.....thanks!!!

If the fault disappeared when you hit the TV, it's likely just dry soldered joints or faulty electrolytic capacitors in the field output circuit. It probably wouldn't cost too much to get it repaired, as field faults are usually pretty straightforward to correct.

It can only get worse if left, which could result in a more expensive component failing, so it's best to bite the bullet now and call out an engineer asap to rectify it.
