whirlpool awed 5726 knocking on spin?

My machine works perfectly until the spin cycle,upon which it starts making a knocking noise, what's wrong and how isn't put right?

Machine will have to be dismantled & inner bowl taken out to inspect the bearings and the shaft for damage. Expensive job.
