Emperor clock runs only without bob?

The Emperor grandfather clock my husband built has run perfectly for 20 years -- until I knocked the pendulum off while winding it. Now it runs without the pendulum but not with it. We replaced the spring. Any other ideas? I haven't yet convinced my husband to call a professional.
