Ideal Classic FF260 boiler - fan full of water?

13 years old and on its last legs according to British Gas. Fan has been noisy now boiler won't light. Suspected seized fan, went to remove it but very heavy as seems to be full of water. Any ideas please?

your classic will run until parts are no longer available.
However some parts for that line of boilers are no longer made.
The fan is at the top of the boiler so it would be hard for it to be full of water. unless it is coming in through the flue terminal.
if the fan is not turning the boiler will not light.

British Gas will want to install and charge for a new boiler.
If the fan fails to run or runs poorly then the boiler will not light.

My idea is that you sack British Gas and engage the services of a reliable and trustworthy independent boiler engineer.

My Potterton boiler was installed here in 1998 - I am on my last legs but the boiler works fine.

I do not understand why or how your fan can possibly be full of water - the fan moves air not water - if the fan had water in it it would be dripping out over the floor.

Good Luck..., January 2016
