None of the fixes suggested here works for my Panasonic PVD4743 vcr/dvd player . The remote does not have a c. lock or other buttons mentioned below. It was put into SAFE mode by another recently purchased "universal" remote for another device. The child lock function is not the problem as I've set it to level 8 (unrestricted) according to the manual.
