I have a technics portable cd player sl-xp150. I found a car lead that fit so I tried plugging it in. The cd player now doesn't respond on mains power or batteries. Could this be a blown fuse? Is there a fix for this?

Quick update: the external power supply is 4.5V. NOT 12V. Positive on the connector centre pin

One thought. It would be fairly trivial to rip your CD collection to MP3 files using a pc, add track, artist, album name info using something like mp3tag ( https://www.mp3tag.de/en/ ) and load the finished files onto a memory card in your phone. I have maybe 50, 60 CDs worth of music on my phone, occupying about 4gb of space - trivial in a modern smartphone.

Is the player intended for use on 12V car electrics? Spec info I found says 4.5V.
What is the mains adapter rated to provide? As the player was intended to run on significantly less than 12V you may have banged it by connecting to a 12V supply via a lead that just presents 12V, rather than does voltage conversion.

What is the polarity of the connector? It's usually but not always, centre pin positive. You may have banged it by connecting a reverse polarity.

Check, check and check again. It might well be that you've had an expensive lesson.
