My Scunci Steamer does not come on at all. I plug it in and nothing? The indicator light does not come on

Cynthia, April 2014
It had been heating up but not steaming so I took it apart, used WD40 and pliers, and it worked for about an hour. Then all of a sudden it is not working again. It won't even heat up. I took it apart again and confirmed that the original problem is still fixed. What can I do to get it to heat up and work again?

Go to Scunci Steamer.com and type in that page's search bar "manual" and hit enter. I'm not gonna guarantee 100 % satisfaction.....Google is another great source to obtain info as well.

TY Tiny! I had two and they are working amazing. I should have sprayed with WD-40 First. I used long medical scissors to wiggle it out.

My steamer is about 5 years old & was not working & I did what tiny little suggested. I don't know that so much the taking it apart helped but after spraying CLR in the water hole it got things moving again. There was some build-up on the plunger, keeping it from moving. After several squirts of CLR, the bar was shiny & moved back & forth when I pressed the steam button. I added a little water & heated it up to let the CLR clean out everything else. I would recommend to spray the steam outside if you do this with CLR in the water tank. So far so good, steamer is back to work.

also forgot - when it doesn't seem to heat, it is plugged with debris from water inside. add a little white vinegar to water next time (no more than maximum) and it's magic! clears it out with no more problems. when done, pour water into sink and see what comes out. mine had black specks first time, white chunks next (lime?) im using distilled water now with vinegar each time - maybe 1/4 cup vinegar. vinegar also helps clean.

just discovered a new use for my scunci. i have had a ceramic cook top for a year, and have not been happy with the cleaning method. the gunk they sell and say to use works, but quickly gets dirty again and seems to get dirty faster - like it's an oily finish. last week i was using scunci to clean my stainless appliances, and just because i was passing by, i swished it over the stove top. when i wiped it off, i was amazed! almost spotless. and no chemicals to buy, breathe, or store. my allergies are much better since i quit using so many cleaners in the house, and this little number helps a great deal. only thing i don't like is it seems to upset easily. guess im using the long tube too much. need to use the short nozzle. i love this machine. i've had it two years still going strong.

Thanks, tinylittle's results worked fine, and I'm up and cleaning again.

Scunci is garbage I used it maybe 4X and now the plunger is frozen. Garbage. I tried to un-clog the plunger it is jammed does anyone know if the silver top on the inside comes off. Another product not made in USA

Thanks

Kaz, August 2009
Are you suppose to add salt in the scunci steamer?

Sandra, August 2009
Thank you also, tinylittle.

Your directions and about 10 minutes of time completely repaired our Scunci.

The missus will be pleased.

THANK YOU TINY LITTLE!!!! you saved me the purchase of a new machine. You had the ONLY good advice on the internet. I have always been happy with my steamer. Usually by the time my steam is out, I am in need of a break anyway! BTW don't bother with the screws on the bottom of the unit.....I drove myself crazy with the one non-screw with the odd head. After hurting myself and a glass of wine later, I got the stupid thing out, only to find wires that weren't the problem anyway...
I had given up and was shopping for a new steamer-my kitchen and bathroom have been suffering!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!

I have the ss-1000 version and have the manual. There is nothing special to using this machine. Use a maximum of 11 ounces of water, plug it in, wait 3-4 minutes before pressing the plunger and that's it.

Mine did seem to stop working in that when I pressed the plunger, nothing happened. I simply took it apart by removing the 2 screws in the front (where the steam exits), the 2 screws under the cap (under the rubber flat washer) and the 1 screw at the bottom of the handle. Take all the pieces off and you may find the brass plunger is stuck. I loosened it by grabbing it through the the water opening with needle nose pliers and wiggling it back and forth as well as gently tapping it with a hammer from the outside. Once it was loose, I used a little WD40 and reassembled it. I then ran CLR through the machine and it works perfectly again.

I put water in the unit and plugged it in waiting to be able to press the button and nothing happens. Is there some special on/off button I'm not seeing.

I found the steamer listed on this website:
Http://www.man-na.com.cn Below are 2 e-mail addresses that I also found. I am trying to find 2 replacement handles for the Scunci sweeper. It is amazing how this product is being sold in the USA & we are unable to locate them.

We used ours for an hour a night for about two weeks removing wallpaper. It did a good job. I pushed the button and my husband scraped two layers of wallpaper off. I thought it was a good trade off:) Now the dumb thing has stopped working. Half of my kitchen is done. My hubby took it apart and says that it is the thermoster that needs replaced. Does anyone know where you can get one of those? Anyone have any ideas what I should do now?

I called that 1800 for the steamer but it tells you to call another number which cost you more money. Has anyone tried putting salt in the tank and letting it clean that way.

Tanyak1962, February 2008
If anyone is thinking of getting rid of your scunci let me know. I let someone borrow mine and they left water in it for quite a while and now I need to replace the plunger. I cant find any replacement parts online. thanks.

Stephen, January 2008
For Cathy,
You won't need a manual. Before you would be able to get a manual the steamer will probably stop working.

Lorraine, January 2008
THAT PHONE NUMBER FOR SCUNCI IS NO GOOD. I TRIED IT YESTERDAY 12-5-07.

DANELLA R. GRAY, December 2007
if my steamer is backing up how do you unclog ?

Kim Lovello, November 2007
November 2007 My Scunci steamer also quit working after only three uses. Absolutely disgusting! Why isn't there a class action lawsuit against the parent corporation? After all, benchmark testing is a common manufacturing test. They had to have known...

Susan, November 2007
I have the manual and there is no contact information in it which is a definite red flag.Mine is out of commission after being used twice, three times at the most. Awful waste of money. Try the shark version, it does the same thing and the name is more established

Stacey, September 2007
i also need a manual i guess they are not making this steamer anymore. If anyone could e-mail me a manual i would be so thankful, My steam also quit putting out steam and I have only used it once.

Thank you

Does any one know who makes the scunci steamer?

I have a scunci steamer and I lost my book. If anyone knows who makes the steamer maybe I can download a manual.

From an online chat I had with a QVC representative:
Thank you for waiting. I believe that you are looking for information on V22649 , the Scunci 1000 Watt Handheld Steam Cleaner with 24 Accessories. Scunci can be reached at www.scunci.com or you can contact them by phone at : 1-866-567-2537. I hope that this information is helpful.

I have not tried calling yet.

Then I found this info:
Scunci Out of Business

Pros: lots of attachment storage bag makes it easy to put away
Cons: No valid warranty. Water tank was too small.

Steamer worked great for about a week. The cleaning power really motivated me to tackle jobs that I had been putting off. I liked the you could carry it. It didn't hold much water. After a week, it quit making steam. The unit wouldn't even warm up. I tried to contact the company since it was still under warranty (or so I thought). Apparently when you purchase a product from a company who is still in business, but claims that a certain division is no long in business, all warranties are void. Luckily, I saved my receipt and was able to get a refund from the store that I bought it from. I would not purchase this brand now knowing that a warranty is not available and mine wasn't made with enough quality to last more than a week. There is no way for you to contact the company. When you call customer service, they inform you that Scunci only has hair products and the division that dealt with the steamers is out of business.
