How can I fix a key that popped off my keyboard?

I have a gateway laptop (i'm not sure what model it is - we bought it this summer at best buy) and the y key popped off. Ok, I popped it off when my husband spilled coffee on the laptop and now can't get it back on. I still have the little rubber thingy and two little delicate plastic pieces but can't get any of them to fit together. Help please!

The small white clip attaches to the key cover and the bigger one gets attached to the base. It just pops in when the small clip goes through the bigger piece into the base hook.

I have the same laptop, I found this artile helpful:

Basically, pop a key off beside it and pay attention to how the white clip is positioned on the empty key space. Align your popped on the same way. Pop the white clip onto the base of the computer keyboard, then take the key and when you push down it should click into place.

Just managed to mend mine - Ensure that the two flaps either side of the underside of the key are shaped into a 'v' then place one side into one of the groves and use a narrow implement such as a small screwdriver to push the other flap into the grove. Should do the trick.

Could be that the clip that join the key to the pad has been damaged. Try giving Gateway a ring, they may send you a key for free as a gesture of goodwill. Failing that you may need a new keyboard for your laptop - this has to be from Gateway or supplier of their parts. Its not too hard to fit, just got to follow the instruction that they give very carfully. Good luck.
