How can I fix my Proline DVDR700 from Comet?

Recorder no longer records or recognises blank DVDs.

Playback is OK on recorded DVDs or purchased movie DVDs. Fails to see non permanent RW DVDs. Just over 12 months old. Can it be fixed? Dead laser?

that you download and write to drive via a dvd or cd
