Even better, I see some offer DVD copies of the original tape.
DVD copies are generally excellent and far more versatile and stable in playback, search & pause.

With difficulty if the break/damage is in the centre of the cassette.

If the tape is very important or sentimental there are several online services available. You may even find a someone locally. Locally, I suggest you ask in Photographic Suppliers or Photographers for recommendations as they probably get asked occasionally if old wedding videos and such can be repaired or copied.

Look for a company that will both repair the original AND provide you with a NEW COPY of the original.

For online services, type "video cassette repair" in a search engine, eg. Google
