How can I fix my Panasonic VCR NV-HD600-EA?

When I turn on the system I get sound through my stereo for a couple of seconds and then nothing. This was intermitent for a while and now it is permanent. All the RCA's etc are correct as they havent been touched.
I can play a tape and the sound and picture works.
If I try and record it records the picture with no sound.
????

If a can find out what bit needs replacing I have all the gear to de-solder and solder.
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be a great help.

Also,..
..a long shot but something that you may try yourself. Select the Menu and 'Shipping Condition', this will totally clear all tuning data. Then select 'Auto-Setup' to retune your video.

(This was a fix for some obscure audio problems with that model relating to carrier frequency errors & pdc).

It sounds like the Audio bias Oscillator has stopped running this remove the old sound off the tape, could be dry jointed. Really a job for engineer.
