the handle will go up and the levers lock but the key will not turn to lock it , i have tried wd40 and it did not work

If the problem persist even with a new cylinder, the door may have dropped slightly. If all locks don't "FULLY" engage then the key will not complete it's turn. A few adjustments to the hinges will normally rectifty this fault.

Sounds to me like the barrel might be worn! over time they tend to wear out and the spindles inside don`t turn like they used to! don`t worry though it is easily fixable! when the door is open there should be a retaining screw that is exactly adjacent to where the barrel is take this outand use your key to turn the barrel one way ior the other until it comes out! take this to a lock shop for a replacement and then reverse the steps to install the new one! alternatively call a lock smith or window repair service but this may be a little pricey! a new barrel shouldn`t cost you more then £30 supply only! hope this helps! chris!
