JVC says lens cap is on but it is not?

When we try to take a picture, the screen says the lens cap is on when it is not. We can't record a picture. What can we do. We have film, the battery is charged..

most likely problem is a bad image sensor. cost about $50 plus labor; call jvc or send to a jvc service center.
