What does error code E2 mean?

My 8 yr old DIPLOMAT DISHWASHER ADP 8224 frequently shows Error Code E2, and has obviously not completed the cycle. However, the troubleshooting section of my handbook says that Alarm Code E2 is 'Not used on this appliance'!.

E2 means the overfill switch has operated, probably because the level swich has not operated allowing too much water into the machine.
