I have just repaired my Hotpoint Aquarius WF340 washing machine due to a bad vibration during spinning cycle. On this ocassion it was a very simple fix and did not require any bearings or any special knowledge or tools.

The fault : The couter balance weight (lump of concrete) on top of the drum hand become lose, and was banging from side to side whilst spining. To check if this is your fault - remove the top cover you will be able to move the weight by hand.

Fix : Remove the top cover of machine and then the counter balance by the three bolts on top, taking care to remove them squarely. Remove the balance weight. The fix is simple, apply some form of hard wearing tape around each location spigot until it is a snug fit on the balance weight. You will notice the roughness of the block will wear into the spigots, so a good form of tape is needed to avoid further problems. Once each of the three spigots is snug place the weight back onto the spigots.

Next - The fixing screws have two or more washers and a long screw. Remove the steel washers and then put a 3/4" or 1" tap washer onto each screw right up under head of screw - you may need to drill out the hole in tap washer to allow it to fit. Repeat for all 3 screws and then replace steel washers. Now you can refit the screws to drum of machine again becareful to make sure they go in square and do not over tighten. Put the cover back on - Job done.

I also added some silicon around each spigot inside the tap to give extra support - but may not be needed.

Hope this helps.

you dont say whether its a WM or a WMA model ? if its a WMA then dont try it cos the whole machine has to come to bits and the bearings are dear, a wm is easy but the whole front has to come off , contact me if you need help as I am a washing machine engineer !
