Every time I switch my PC on it runs slow and then just freezes for about 10-15 minutes then everything justcomes up as normal and runs fine from there. i have run a virus scan but it doesn't show any viruses. It used to be fine then all of a sudden this started happening, anyone any idea's?

Is it Windows XP? Often this is caused by a recent installation, often internet software... It could be a registry error, and windows is searching for a particular file. It could be some software that runs when windows starts up. i suggest.. go to start -> run -> and type msconfig . When this runs you can see all the programs that run in teh background. See if there is something you don't recognise.. Careful, cos there are windows programs that must run.. search through Yahoo to check. You can disable ones that are suspect and reboot windows. It will let you untick them again after.

there could be a lot of items on your start-up menu. eliminate the ones you know you can live without. if you're not sure, don't delete them

Assuming XP SP2 make sure that5 you have at least 512MB RAM. Next defragment your hard drive. Delete out all programs that you don't use any more.

Finally if you have skill to recognise what it vital to your PC's startup and what are just stubs put there by applications to make them run faster you could use a utility to clear out the stubs. If you don't know what you are doing however you can do a great deal of damage. However if you feel able to do this put a new post on and I'll list some utilities.
