does anyone know what is the cause of the problem and if i can fix it my self?

pump stuck isolate from mains drain by syphon into a bowl get some bath towels tip machine back and at the rear of machine you will find the pump strip it and look for foriegn body if none present replace pump if this doesn't work call an engineer.
I cant be too specific as you didnt give a model number
